Page Ceremony

Ancient covenants were not signed with ink; they were cut in blood. They were lethal, unshakeable oaths where men drew a line in the dirt and staked their very lives on their word.
This is that line.

In this ceremony, you will hand your son a customized wooden sword—not as a toy, but as a blueprint for the blade he must carry into adulthood. And over that medieval symbol, you will cut a covenant with him.
You are not a perfect man. You will need the raw grace of God and the daily fire of the Holy Spirit to pull this off. But this covenant is your declaration that you are going all in. Like God’s unbreakable oath to Abraham, you are binding yourself to your son’s future. You are swearing before God to train him, equip him, and show him by your own blood and sweat what it looks like to track after the Creator every single day.
Look him in the eye, hand him the blade, and let him know: “I am stepping into the trench with you. We are tracking the truth together, and I will lead the way.

Best for boys 8+ years old

The Process:

Fashion the Sword

For every father with a son aged 8 or older who has not yet crossed this threshold: the duty of preparing for this covenant falls squarely on you.
You must secure and customize your son’s sword before we hit the trail. Unless a local chapter announces a specific, unified forge-night prior to the fall trip, you are charged with undertaking this preparation independently. Do not leave this to the last minute; a covenant blade requires intentionality.
You can source the raw wooden sword for your son’s ceremony directly through this link: HERE. A tutorial on how to customize it can be found HERE.

Overview of the ceremony

When the fire is lit, the Master of Ceremonies will call the men and boys to assemble. We will open by looking back into the smoke of history—unearthing the brutal, intentional training of medieval pages and the ancient Jewish tradition of forging future priests. You will see how the wooden sword is not a prop, but a mirror of a biblical covenant: unbreakable, costly, and eternal.
Then, the floor belongs to the fathers.
The time will come for you to step up, stand square before your son, and put the blade you customized into his hands. You will speak the truth over him, walk him through the meaning carved into that wood, and draw a line in the sand. In front of God and your brothers, you will cut a formal covenant to train, equip, and lead your boy in the way of the Lord.
This is where the boy learns what he is inheriting, and where the father vows to lead the charge.

Prepare your covenant language

A covenant is not a casual promise; it is a blood-earnest vow. The language you choose to speak over your son must carry the full weight of the steel you are placing in his hands. He needs to hear the unshakeable seriousness in your voice, and you need to feel the absolute gravity of the commitment you are making before God.
This is not a suggestion. It is a direct command from the Almighty to forge disciples—and that mission starts on your own hearth, with your own flesh and blood.
Do not rush this, and do not mince words. Use the blueprint below as your foundation, but carve your own heart into it. Expound on it, make it yours, and make it absolute.

Example of the Covenant Language

“Son, your mother and I love you more than words can say. God has placed a sacred charge on our lives: to raise you to know, trust, and follow Jesus with your absolute whole heart. He has called us to forge you into a man after His own heart—a man who will someday stand tall and train others to do the same.
This is my line in the sand. I am not a perfect man, but by the raw grace of God and the power of His Spirit, I am going all in. I pledge my life to stand as your teacher, your trainer, and your guide from this day forward, until the day you take your place as a knight for His kingdom. I will not quit on you.
I am placing this sword into your hands today as a solid token of the covenant I am cutting with you. Let this blade always remind you of the Word of God, and the raw power we carry through it to fight for the truth. I am in the trench with you, son.”
